Effect of water-soluble fertilizers and bio stimulants on quality and economics of pole bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) under protected condition

Abstract

A field experiment was carried out during 2023-24 at the Department of Vegetable Science, College of Horticulture, Mudigere, to evaluate the “Effect of water-soluble fertilizers and biostimulants on quality and economics of pole bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) under protected conditions.” Among the various treatment combinations, the foliar application of monoammonium phosphate and potassium nitrate (each @ 0.5%) along with 0.5% humic acid, 0.5% seaweed extract, and 3% panchagavya combined with the recommended dose of fertilizers (T₁₂) was found to be significantly superior. This treatment recorded the highest protein content in seeds (21.14%), crude fibre content (15.92%), total chlorophyll content in leaves (2.57 mg/g), and pods (1.85 mg/g). Additionally, T₁₂ resulted in the highest economic returns, with a gross return of ₹1,15,138, a net return of ₹84,382, and a benefit-cost (B:C) ratio of 3.74.
