Effect of herbicide combinations on complex weed flora and yield of direct seeded rice (Oryza sativa L.)

Abstract

A field experiment was conducted at Palampur, Himachal Pradesh, to evaluate the efficacy of different herbicide combinations with twelve treatments replicated thrice in a randomized block design in direct seeded rice. Results revealed that total weed count and weed dry weight was lowest under hand weeding at 30 and 45 DAS. Among the herbicide treatments, the populations of grasses, including Commelina benghalensis and sedges, were lowest under penoxsulam + cyhalofop-butyl with hand weeding, followed closely by hand weeding with triafamone + ethoxysulfuron, pretilachlor + pyrazosulfuron-ethyl with hand weeding and bispyribac-sodium with hand weeding. Broad-leaf weed population was lowest under bispyribac-sodium with hand weeding at 45 days after sowing. All the growth and development parameters, grain yield, and test weight of rice were recorded highest under hand weeding twice, whereas among herbicide combinations hand weeding with penoxsulam + cyhalofop-butyl was found effective.
