Evaluation of Sesame (Sesamum indicum L.) Genotypes against Phyllody Disease

Abstract

An experiment was conducted to screen hundred genotypes of sesame to identify the source of resistance to phyllody diseases. All the Hundred genotypes were raised during summer season 2023 at Agricultural Research Station, Darsi under unprotected field conditions, following infector row technique with YLM 66 as susceptible check. After 50 DAS, the genotypes were scored for phyllody based on 0-6 scale (Akhtar et al., 2013). Among all the genotypes screened twenty seven genotypes were expressed immune reaction to phyllody, 20 with moderately resistant and eighteen were moderately resistant, thirteen were tolerant, twelve were moderately susceptible and ten genotypes expressed susceptible reactions. Among all the genotypes, nine genotypes were expressed resistant reaction, fourteen with moderately resistant and seventy seven genotypes expressed susceptible reactions. None of the genotypes were found to be immune to powdery mildew. The identified resistant genotypes can be further utilized for development of resistant varieties and also aids in identification of marker through molecular breeding.
