Comprehensive disquisition on the phytochemical spectrum and pharmacodynamic nuances of Tabernaemontana divaricata

Abstract

Background: Nature is a vital source of medicinal plants, offering a wealth of bioactive compounds indispensable for human health. Tabernaemontana divaricata, commonly referred to as crepe jasmine, is a tropical shrub from the Apocynaceae family, long esteemed in traditional medicine. Its pharmacological significance stems from diverse phytoconstituents such as alkaloids, flavonoids, phenolic acids, saponins, and terpenoids, extracted from various plant parts including leaves, flowers, roots, and latex.Methodology: A systematic review was conducted to examine the phytochemical composition and pharmacological activities of Tabernaemontana divaricata. Data were derived from in-vitro and in vivo experimental models to highlight its therapeutic properties. Techniques such as spectroscopic analysis, enzyme inhibition assays, animal testing, and various extraction methods were employed to characterize and evaluate its pharmacological benefits.Discussion: The pharmacological profile of Tabernaemontana divaricata reveals promising activities such as antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anticancer, antidiabetic, and antimicrobial effects. These bioactive mechanisms underline their potential to address ailments like cancer, diabetes, microbial infections, and oxidative stress-related disorders. The plant’s multifaceted therapeutic properties merit further investigation to develop standardized formulations and sustainable conservation approaches, ensuring its wider clinical application.
