Influence of sowing windows and varieties on yield attributes and yield of finger millet (Eleusine coracana L.)
Abstract
An experiment entitled “Response of Finger Millet (Eleusine coracana L.) Varieties to Different Sowing Windows” was conducted at PG research Farm RCSM College of Agriculture, Kolhapur during the kharif season of 2023. The objective of experiment was to find out the suitable sowing windows of finger millet with various varieties. The experiment was laid out in split plot design with three replications and 12 treatment combinations comprising of four sowing windows as main plot S1: 27th Meteorological week (02 July - 08 July), S2: 29th Meteorological week (16 July - 22 July), S3: 31st Meteorological week (30 July – 05 August) and S4: 33rd Meteorological week (13 August - 19 August) and three varieties S1: Phule Kasari, S2: Phule Nachani and S3: Dapoli-3 as sub plot treatments with three replications. The highest growth attributes such as plant height, flag leaf, no of tillers, dry matter accumulation and yield attributes viz. number of fingers, length of fingers, weight of grain per ear head, and test weight of finger millet was recorded with first sowing window i.e. 27th meteorological week (02 July – 08 July) along with variety Phule Nachani.
