Effects of enriched organic sources on soil fertility, growths attribute, and yield of green gram (Vigna radiata L.)

Abstract

A field experiment was conducted at the Instructional Research Farm, Mewar University, Rajasthan during the Kharif 2024 season to evaluate the impact of enriched organic sources on soil fertility, growth parameters, and yield performance of green gram (Vigna radiata L.). Nine treatment combinations comprising farmyard manure (FYM), vermicompost (VC), and their enrichments with rock phosphate (RP) and mica (MC) were tested in a randomized block design with three replications. Results indicated significant improvement in all observed growth parameters, yield attributes, and soil fertility indices. The highest plant height (70.00 cm), branch count, leaf number, nodule formation, grain yield (1235 kg/ha), and straw yield (2507 kg/ha) were recorded under vermicompost enriched with both RP and MC (T9). Enriched organic sources also improved post-harvest soil properties, including organic carbon, available NPK, and microbial activity. These findings underscore the potential of integrating enriched organic inputs for sustainable green gram cultivation and soil health restoration.
