Chlorantraniliprole poisoning: A rare insecticide poisoning in humans

Abstract

Background: Chlorantraniliprole is a relatively new anthranilic diamide insecticide that acts as a ryanodine receptor modulator. While it is considered to have a favourable safety profile in mammals, data on human toxicity are limited. Case Presentation: We report a case of a 23-year-old female who presented to the Emergency Department following deliberate ingestion of an unknown herbicide, later identified as chlorantraniliprole. Her symptoms were limited to vomiting and mild drowsiness. Vitals and laboratory investigations were within normal limits. She was managed conservatively with gastric lavage and observation, with full recovery. Conclusion: This case highlights the relatively benign nature of isolated chlorantraniliprole ingestion in humans, although close monitoring remains essential due to the paucity of clinical data on such exposures.
