Isolation, identification and pathogenicity of Macrophomina phaseolina from infected plant samples

Abstract

The charcoal rot of soybean is one of important disease it cause 70% loss in soybean yield. The disease is common in M.P., Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Uttaranchal, Punjab and Delhi. The ten isolates of Macrophomina phaseolina were collected from different districts of Maharashtra viz., Akola, Nagpur, Amravati, Satara (Karanje), Satara (Umbraj), Sangli, Kolhapur (Kurundwad), Kolhapur (Kini), Washim and Washim (Ekamba).The pathogenicity test of isolates of Macrophomina phaseolina isolated from the different parts of the Maharashtra was tested by using susceptible cultivar TAMS-38. On the basis of percent mortality out of these ten 2 isolates (MP-7, MP-10) were strongly pathogenic, 6 isolates (MP-1, MP-3, MP-4, MP-5, MP-6, MP-8, MP-9) were moderately pathogenic and one were highly pathogenic.
