Carbon efficiency of soybean-based cropping system under nitrogen management through urea and FYM
Abstract
The experiment entitled “Carbon efficiency of soybean-based cropping systems under nitrogen management through urea and FYM” conducted for two consecutive years viz., Kharif and Rabi seasons of 2019-20 and 2020-21 at Research farm Department of Agronomy, Dr. Panjabrao Deshmukh Krishi Vidyapeeth, Akola. Experimental soil was found to be clayey in texture, medium in available Nitrogen (179.00 Kg ha-1), low in available Phosphorus (18.03 Kg ha-1), fairly high in available Potassium (367.28 Kg ha-1) and moderate in organic carbon and slightly alkaline (7.86) in reaction. It consists of treatments which includes soybean based cropping sequence during 2019-20 and 2020-21. The Kharif season soybean crop was analysed in Split Plot design (SPD) while the analysis of Rabi sequence crops (Chickpea, Rabi maize, Safflower and Potato) was done in Randomized Block Design (RBD). The experiment consisted of main plot treatments as cropping sequence viz., Soybean as Kharif crop followed by four Rabi crops viz., Chickpea, Rabi Maize, Safflower and Potato. On the other hand, main plot is again divided into sub-plots consisting of% Nitrogen and Source (% N Urea -% N FYM) viz., N0-Control (0-0); N1-100% RDN (100-0); N2-100% RDN (75-25); N3-100% RDN (50-50); N4-100% RDN (25-75). Most carbon efficient cropping sequence was Soybean-Safflower cropping sequence with no fertilizer application.
