Synergistic effects of cutting practices and plant growth regulators for enhanced yield and profitability of coriander (Coriandrum sativum L.)

Abstract

This study, conducted during the Rabi seasons of 2023-24 and 2024-25 at CCSHAU, Hisar, evaluated the effects of leaf-cutting levels (No Cutting, One Cutting, Two Cuttings) and plant growth regulators (PGRs) on coriander yield and profitability. The variety Hisar Bhoomit was used in a split-plot design. Results showed that no cutting maximized seed yield (1,899 and 1,941 kg/ha), while two cuttings enhanced leaf yield (16,821 and 17,375 kg/ha). Among PGRs, benzyl adenine at 20 ppm followed by benzyl adenine 10 ppm significantly improved both leaf yield, seed yield and economic returns, achieving the highest net return and B:C ratio (4.49 and 4.44) when combined with two cuttings across both years. These findings highlight the potential of integrating optimized cutting practices and PGR applications for sustainable and profitable coriander cultivation.
