In Vitro Evaluation of optimum Antioxidant Properties of Polyherbal formulation by Methanolic extract of seeds of Tectona grandis and Psidium guava java
Abstract
Herbal products containing herb (s) have been in trade and commerce and are currently used for variety of purpose. The WHO defined an herb as being fresh (or) dried. Fragmented (or) powdered plant material. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) are free radicals (FR) or radical precursors if there are unpaired electrons in an orbital, highly reactive, molecular species are generated that tend to trap an electron from any other molecule to compensate for its electron deficiency. The major free radicals associated with health disorders are reactive oxygen species (ROS), reactive nitrogen species (RNS) and reactive sulphur species (RSS) e.g. oxygen singlets, superoxide’s, hypochlorite, hydrogen peroxide, hydroxyl radical, nitric oxide, and peroxynitrite radicals. Antioxidants are chemical substances that donate an electron to the free radical and convert it to a harmless molecule. They may reduce the energy of the free radical or suppress radical formation or break chain propagation or repair damage and reconstitute membranes The combination of multiple herbs in Polyherbal formulations (PHF) is often associated with greater therapeutic efficacy due to synergistic interactions; this study is aimed to evaluate the phytochemicals, anti-oxidative potentials and interaction among the herbs of Tectona grandis and Psidium guava java. Determination of the optimum antioxidant properties of Polyherbal formulations of the Methanolic extract of seeds of Tectona grandis and Dried Leafs of Psidium guava java using in vitro method. The antioxidant study of the individual extracts and their different combinations were conducted using 2, 2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging activity and Hydrogen peroxide scavenging activity. Plants were screened for Phytochemicals, Phenolic and flavonoid contents of Tectona grandis and Psidium guava java. In combination of these both it exhibits only in the DPPH method be exhibits the synergetic activity with the mechanism of hydrogen atom transfer in 1: 1 ratio.
