Assessment of land evaluation studies of Basavangiri Village in H. D. Kote Taluk of Mysuru District, Karnataka, India

Abstract

A detailed study was conducted to assess morphological, physical-chemical properties of surface and subsurface soils and the land evaluation studies of Basavangiri village, in H D Kote taluk of Mysuru district, Karnataka, India. A land evaluation study includes land capability and crop suitability of study area. Initially, a detailed land resource survey was carried out at 1:7920 scale to derive soil phase units based on land surface and profile characters. Three soil series were identified in the study area based on the pedological investigations of typifying pedons and physio-chemical properties. Three soil series were identified and further mapped into seventeen soil phase units. Land capability classes in the study area were classified as IIs and IIIse with limitations of soil properties and soil erosion. The mapped soils from the study area were assessed for the suitability of crops like maize, cotton, tobacco and ragi. Soil phase unit wise crop plan with suitable interventions for field crops were developed, which by implementing increases productivity and farm income in the study area.
