A 25-year retrospective growth of fish production, fish seed production and revenue generation from aquatic resources of Rajasthan (India)
Abstract
Rajasthan state is one of the largest and landlocked states of India. It is endowed with vast and potential aquatic resources in the form of reservoirs, lakes, rivers, canals, etc. These water resources are used for fish farming practices and contributed about 91349.43 MT of fish production, 1360.00 million seed (fry) production, and ? 7442.83 lakh revenue in the fishing year 2023-24. The annual average growth rate compiled for fish production was 8.87±1.90. For fish seed production, it was 9.15±3.85, and for revenue generation was 14.11±5.75. In the present study, the relative variability or dispersion of data was calculated by a coefficient of variation (CV), which shows that revenue generation data shows comparatively high variability, 80.11%, followed by fish production data, 59.64%, and fish seed production data, 59.00%. Whereas, the variability in annual growth rate of fish production, fish seed production, and revenue generation data shows 107.12%, 210.41% and 203.57%, respectively. It is suggested that fish production in the state can be further increased by the supply of good quality and quantity of fish seed and fish feed. It is also inferred that following the scientific fish farming management practices and good extension services could be helpful for better utilization of the water resources to enhance the fish production, fish seed production, and revenue generation from the available aquatic resources of the state
