Effects of different types of drying of Hibiscus rosa-sinensis petals for retention of various bioactive constituents
Abstract
Hibiscus rosa-sinensis, known for its striking appearance and therapeutic properties, contains a rich profile of bioactive compounds and these compounds are linked to a variety of health benefits. The method of drying significantly influences the retention of these bioactive compounds, and this study reveals the effects of different drying techniques on retention of bioactive constituents in various coloured hibiscus petals. The results indicate that sun drying is the most effective method for preserving bioactive constituents especially for the red variety. This drying helps to preserve the nutritional and antioxidant qualities of hibiscus petals, further exploring them for herbal product formulations.
