Diversity of potential plants as Larvicides against Aedes aegypti: Scoping review

Abstract

Aedes aegypti is the main vector of dengue hemorrhagic fever, and its control still relies on chemical larvicides, which have caused larval resistance. therefore, an alternative using plants is needed. Scoping review was conducted using Scopus and PubMed databases with keywords: larvicide OR larvicide AND Aedes aegypti AND Ae. aegypti AND plant AND extract. Inclusion criteria were English language articles published between 2015 and 2025, full text available, and focus on larvicidal activity against Aedes aegypti. Out of 832 articles, 15 met the inclusion criteria and were analyzed further. The review found 15 plant species with potential as larvicides. These plants contain active compounds such as alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, and terpenoids, which can kill mosquito larvae. Among these plants, Kaempferia galanga (LC?? = 1.56 ppm), and Persea americana (LC?? = 7.12 ppm) showed high activity with LC?? < 50 ppm, which is categorized as very potent.
