Varietal screening of black gram varieties against major insect pests
Abstract
The present investigation entitled “Varietal screening and pest management in black gram [Vigna mungo (L.) Hepper] under organic farming” during kharif, 2024 revealed that the varieties KU-4, MASH-479 and PU-1 proved comparatively resistant against sucking pest and recorded the mean population of 13.78, 14.13 & 14.31 aphid (Aphis craccivora), 7.94, 8.32 & 8.51 whitefly (Bemisia tabaci) and 13.40, 14.14 & 14.97 jassid (Empoasca kerri) per five plants, respectively. The varieties IPU-11-02, IPU-10-26 and IPU-13-1 were recorded to exhibit susceptibility against aphid with 23.40, 24.64 & 26.27 mean aphid population per five plants. Likewise the varieties IPU-10-26 and IPU-13-1 were recorded to exhibit susceptibility against whitefly and jassid with 12.14 & 12.89 mean whitefly population per five plants and 21.61 & 22.06 mean jassid population per five plants, respectively during kharif, 2024. The varieties KU-4, MASH-479, KU-5 and PU-1 proved comparatively resistant against spotted pod borer (Maruca testulalis) and recorded percent mean pod damage of 7.40, 8.45, 9.18 & 10.20 percent per five plants. The varieties IPU-11-02, KU-6, IPU-13-1 and IPU-10-26 were recorded to exhibit susceptibility against spotted pod borer with 38.87, 41.21, and 34.44 percent mean pod damage per five plants during kharif, 2024.
