The role of Andrographis Paniculata root extract on nephrotoxicity in swiss albino mice-research article
Abstract
Nephrotoxicity, a critical adverse effect of various xenobiotics and drugs, poses significant risks to kidney function. This study investigates the protective effect of Andrographis paniculata root extract on nephrotoxicity induced in Swiss Albino mice. A total of 30 mice were divided into five groups, including control, nephrotoxic agent only (gentamicin), and three treatment groups receiving different doses of A. paniculata root extract. Results demonstrated that mice treated with the extract exhibited significantly improved kidney function, as indicated by serum creatinine and blood urea nitrogen (BUN) levels, and histopathological recovery of renal tissues. The findings suggest that A. paniculata root extract exhibits nephroprotective properties, likely due to its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory constituents.
