Past cases, present hope: A retrospective study assessing homoeopathic approach in allergic rhinitis

Abstract

Background: Allergic Rhinitis (AR) refers to inflammation of the nasal lining triggered by inhaling allergens such as pollen, animal dander, and other airborne particles. Common symptoms include sneezing, nasal congestion, a runny nose, postnasal drip, and nasal itching. This retrospective study analyses and evaluates the homoeopathic treatments that were prescribed for managing allergic rhinitis thereby highlighting the epidemiological trends of the disease. Objective: The aim of this retrospective study is to find out the group of homoeopathic medicines that are beneficial in the treatment of allergic rhinitis. Materials and Methods: This retrospective study included 156 patients diagnosed with allergic rhinitis, who were assessed at the OPD of Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru State Homoeopathic Medical College & Hospital, Lakhanpur, Kanpur. The selection was based on clinical history, physical examination, case analysis, evaluation, and the totality of symptoms. Results: The study revealed that out of 135 patients, mostly females were affected by allergic rhinitis and mostly young and middle-aged adults are affected by it. Total 92 cases were improved and 32 were mildly improved. Hence, this retrospective study showed a positive response to homoeopathic treatment.
