Bridging public health and homoeopathy: The potential role of homoeopathic medicine in hyperlipidemia management

Abstract

Hyperlipidemia is a predominantly arising issue for the common people in the community of India. Individuals with hyperlipidemia and diagnosed with Familial Hypercholesterolemia (FH) are more prone to develop the risk of Cardiovascular Diseases (CVD) compared to those of normal total cholesterol levels. Hyperlipidemia is said to be closely linked with the pathophysiology of CVD and also considered as a key independent modifiable risk factor of it. In India there has been an concerned increase in the prevalence of CVD from past two decades and it has been seen that the mortality rate has been increased to 24% among the age group of 25-70 years of age. Urbanization-related lifestyle changes as well as the epidemiologic and dietary shifts that come with economic development are the reasons behind the rise in CVD rate. Statins therapy has been used widely used for treating the hyperlipidemia cases around the world, inspite of having harmful effects to the body it is still advised by many physicians. To reduce this effect homoeopathy has also been used as complementary medicine which can help in reduce the lipid levels. Various Homoeopathic studies had already been conducted and their results has shown good results which states that they have lipid lowering properties in the homoeopathic medicines.
