Laboratory study on biorhythm of Oestrus ovis
Abstract
Thepresent study revealed the emergence of adult Oestrus ovis from thelarva collected from the nasal cavities of sheep under laboratory conditions inand around Hyderabad. Maggots collected from the nasal cavities of sheepslaughtered were identified as belonging to Oestrus ovis by microscopicexamination in the laboratory. The development of third stage larva was studiedin the laboratory by allowing the larva to penetrate in to the soil forpupation and emergence of adult fly in a beaker kept inside the fly cage. Thefly emerged out after 28 days of observation. Based on the morphologicalfeatures, the third stage larva and adult fly were confirmed as belonging to Oestrusovis.
