Effect of video assisted teaching program on knowledge and practice about basic life support among the Indian Hajj pilgrims, Makkah
Abstract
Sudden cardiac death is the leading cause of 15%-20% of all deaths worldwide. Cardiovascular disease has recently emerged as the leading cause of mortality and morbidity during hajj. Basic life support is extremely important in increasing survival rate of people who have undergone cardiac arrest. Most of the studies show poor to average knowledge and practice of basic life support and it indicate that there is need of proper training. Objectives: To assess the knowledge and practice about basic life support among the Indian Hajj pilgrims, determine the effectiveness of video assisted teaching on it, and find out the association between the pre-test knowledge and practice with the selected socio demographic variable. Method: 52 Indian Hajj pilgrims were selected by using convenient sampling method from Hajj building in Aziziya, Makkah. A structured questionnaire with semi structured interview schedule was used to assess the Knowledge. An observational checklist used to check the practice. The participants were categorized into a total of 5 groups with 8-12 members in each group. Then conducted the video assisted teaching program on Basic life support along with demonstrations and the traditional teaching method.
