Prevalence of Hepatozoon canis infection in canines of Eluru District

Abstract

A total of 812 dogs thatrnwere brought to the Area Veterinary Hospital, Eluru were screened for haemornparasites by wet blood film and Leishman’s staining techniques to find for any Hepatozoonrncanis organisms. In the present study, 7 dogs were found positive for Hepatozoonrncanis on Leishman’s staining technique. Prevalence of Hepatozoon canisrninfection was observed in Mongrels and Pomeranian breeds. Age, sex and breedrnwise studies were carried out and found out that highest incidence was seen inrnPomeranian cross breed, sex wise they are almost equally distributed and agernwise all ages were susceptible.
