Effective outcomes of versatile mode of warm-up exercise on selected fitness variables of volleyball players in summer season
Abstract
This study aimed to assess the impact of tworndifferent warm-up protocols—static stretching (W&SS) and dynamicrnproprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF) stretching (W&D cumrnPNFS)—on the explosive strength, speed, and flexibility of volleyball players.rnThirty players (aged 18-27) from Lucknow University participated. Performancernwas measured using a 20-meter sprint (speed), sit-and-reach test (flexibility),rnand vertical jump (explosive strength). The study found no significant differences betweenrnthe two warm-up protocols in terms of speed, flexibility, or explosivernstrength, as measured by t-tests. Although the dynamic PNF warm-up showed arnslight trend toward improved flexibility and a small reduction in sprint time,rnnone of these changes were statistically significant. A minor improvement inrnvertical jump performance was observed in the W&D cum PNFS group, but therneffect was not statistically significant at the 0.05 level. The results suggest that both static and dynamicrnwarm-ups do not significantly impact the performance measures of volleyballrnplayers. However, further research is recommended to explore the physiologicalrnand psychological effects of these warm-up methods in more ecologically validrnsettings. Coaches and practitioners should evaluate the specific needs of theirrnathletes before selecting a warm-up strategy.
