Evaluate the efficacy of newer insecticides against major insect pests of rice and their impact on natural enemies in Kharif season

Abstract

The field experiment was conducted at the Breeder seed production farm, Department of Plant Breeding, Jawaharlal Nehru Krishi Vishwa Vidyalaya, Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, during the kharif season (2023). The rice seedlings were transplanted in plots of 4 m × 5 m, with row-to-row spacing of 20 cm and plant-to-plant spacing also 20 cm. Eight treatments were evaluated against, yellow stem borer and leaf folder and also seen their impact on natural enemies, i.e., Dinotefuran 15% SG + Pymetrozine 45% WG, Chlorantraniliprole 0.50% GR + Thiamethoxam 1% GR, Fipronil 0.60% GR, Dinotefuran 20% SG, Pymetrozine 50% WG, Chlorantraniliprole 0.40% GR, Thiamethoxam 25% WG and Control (Untreated) in RBD with three replications. The study revealed that the Chlorantraniliprole 0.50% GR + Thiamethoxam 1% GR was the most effective treatment for reducing the yellow stem borer and leaf folder populations and the highest benefit-cost ratio and highest yield was achieved by Chlorantraniliprole 0.40% GR.
