Comparative in-vitro evaluation of marketed formulations (Branded Vs Generic) Crocin 650 Vs Solo 650 tablets
Abstract
The current study is a comparative in vitro study of two commercially available paracetamol (Acetaminophen) tablet brands. Solo 650 and Crocine 650. The assessment involved both physical and chemical parameters, which included weight variation, hardness, friability and disintegration time, the latter in physical parameters while drug content uniformity and dissolution profile were amongst the chemical parameters considered. Two formulations were checked against pharmacopeial standards. Results showed that, although both brands were under the official specifications, Crocine 650 showed slightly better results in terms of a faster rate of disintegration and a higher percentage of drug release in 5 minutes. Such findings imply a variation in association with the excipient composition and manufacture processes that may impact the bioavailability and efficacy. Such studies are very important to drive for a quality assurance and hence therapeutic equivalence among available generic brands in the market.
