A Comparative Analysis of Traditional and Interactive Teaching Methods in English

Abstract

The mode of lesson delivery significantly influences student learning outcomes. This research investigates the effectiveness of traditional and interactive teaching methodologies in English instruction. Traditional teaching methods focus on structured lessons, rote memorization, and teacher-led discussions, providing discipline and a well-defined learning framework. In contrast, interactive approaches prioritize student engagement, collaboration, and creativity, fostering critical thinking and deeper comprehension. Utilizing a mixed-method research approach—including classroom observations, student surveys, and comprehension assessments—this study examines the advantages and limitations of each method. The results indicate that while traditional methods ensure discipline and structured knowledge acquisition, interactive approaches improve comprehension and retention. The research findings aim to support educators in refining their instructional methods to enhance student engagement, understanding, and academic performance.
