Applications of intraoral scanners in dentistry: A literature review

Abstract

Introduction: The use of intraoral scanners is increasingly employed in dentistry, as they have proven to be a promising tool in diagnosing oral conditions, contributing to oral health. Methodology: A comparative study of the various applications of intraoral scanners in dentistry was conducted, consulting databases such as PUBMED, NCBI, GOOGLE SCHOLAR, and EBSCO. Inclusion criteria were studies published in the last 3 years, in high-impact journals, in English, while exclusion criteria were studies published before 2021 or in Spanish. Results: Intraoral scanners are considered valid and established tools in the market for diagnosing conditions such as caries, dental wear, and the presence of dental biofilm. Conclusion: The use of intraoral scanners has revolutionized dentistry and the way dental procedures have been conducted to date.
