Homeopathic management of Telogen effluvium: A case report

Abstract

Telogen effluvium (TE) is a common form of diffuse hair loss that occurs when a large number of hair follicles enter the telogen (resting) phase prematurely. It is typically triggered by physiological or psychological stress. While it is self-limiting in many cases, chronic TE can cause significant distress. Objective: To present a case of TE successfully managed through individualized homeopathic treatment. Method: A 30-year-old postpartum female presented with complaints of sudden diffuse hair fall. After ruling out other causes of alopecia, TE was diagnosed and individualized homeopathic management was initiated. Results: Over a period of three months, marked improvement in hair regrowth and reduction in hair fall was observed, along with emotional stabilization. Conclusion: In this case, patient was suffering from telogen effluvium, due to mental stress, post delivery hormonal dysregulation and mild nutritional deficiency which has disturbed her neuro-endocrinal axis, bringing on prematurely telogen phase to hair follicles. Homeopathic treatment had been effective in retrieving the normal functioning of neuro–endocrinal axis and correcting the nutritional deficiency by giving a individualized remedy through miasmatic and symptomatic similarity, which brings the vital force to normal functioning.
