A study on selected physiological variables of different aged population groups
Abstract
To live a long healthy life for sustainable development goals, everyone generally perform regular exercises according to their level. The objective of the study was to compare the selected physiological variables of different aged population groups. Thirty males of different age categories (Young Aged Group-18-44 years, Middle Aged Group- 45-60 years and Elderly Aged Group- 60 years and above) were purposively selected from Bolpur, Birbhum, WB as the subjects for the study. Each age categories was also sub divided into Regular Exercise Group and Sedentary Group. The minimum training age of the subjects was 5 years. Physiological variables selected for the study were muscle mass, fat mass and resting metabolic rate. The selected physiological variables were measured through electrode impedance with Meltron BioScan 916 machine. Descriptive statistics, Two-way ANOVA and LSD post-hoc-test were used. The result revealed that regular young aged population group were superior in muscle mass and resting metabolic rate than middle aged population group than elderly aged population group. The Elderly aged population group was superior in fat mass than the middle aged population group than the young aged population group. The regular exercise groups were better in all physiological variables than the sedentary groups.
