Diversity of avian fauna from Zilpi village of Dharni (Melghat), district Amravati 

Abstract

The study of avian diversity in Zilpi village, located in the Dharni Taluka of the Amravati District, Maharashtra, presents a significant insight into the ecological richness of the region. The village, surrounded by lush forests, riverine ecosystems, and agricultural landscapes, offers a variety of habitats for both resident and migratory bird species. This research aims to document the avian fauna of the area, and assess its species composition. Field surveys were conducted at 8 different locations from October 2023 to February 2024 which have led to the identification of 70 species of birds, including 52 are resident species, 13 are residential migratory species, 03 are migratory and 01 is residential breeding species. The study highlights the ecological importance of the region as a habitat for several threatened and endemic bird species. Maximum abundance was observed from order-Passeriiformes with 39% of avian population. The findings of this paper provide essential baseline data for avian conservation efforts and the sustainable management of bird habitats in the region, contributing to broader ecological studies in the Vidarbha region of Maharashtra.
