Yield maximization in grain cowpea through micronutrients and chitosan application
Abstract
A field experiment was conducted on grain cowpea (Vigna unguiculata), variety PGCP-6 at the Agronomy Farm, College of Agriculture, Kerala Agricultural University, Vellanikkara, Thrissur, during Rabi 2024 to study the influence of foliar application of micronutrients (B-Boron and Mo-Molybdenum) and Rhizobium inoculation with different methods of chitosan application (C1 - no chitosan, C2 - soil application, C3 - foliar application, C4 - soil and foliar application) on growth and yield attributes. The experiment was laid out in factorial Randomized Block Design (RBD) with eight treatments replicated thrice. The results revealed that application of boron, molybdenum and chitosan as foliar spray recorded the highest pod weight per plant (35.67 g) and grain yield (1142.86 kg ha-1).
