Evaluation of biostimulant on performance of summer greengram In Srikakulam district of north coastal AP

Abstract

Green gram (Vigna radiata), a protein-rich pulse crop, plays a crucial role in the dietary needs of the Indian population and contributes significantly to soil fertility through nitrogen fixation. The present study was conducted during the summer season of 2021-22 at the Agricultural Research Station, Amadalavalasa, in Srikakulam district of Andhra Pradesh, to evaluate the effect of biostimulants on the growth and yield performance of greengram under irrigated conditions. The experiment was laid out on sandy loam with a clay base soil type, with a total rainfall of 227.2 mm received during the cropping period. The application of biostimulants showed notable effects on crop vigor, pest resistance, and final yield. Supplemental irrigations using a micro-sprinkler system were provided, and pest and disease management practices were followed as needed. The findings suggest that biostimulant application can enhance crop performance and resilience in summer-grown greengram, supporting sustainable pulse production in the region.
