Nigam's acute cholecystitis scoring system (NACSS): A method to predict severity of cholecystitis
Abstract
Acute abdomen is a common problem for which a surgeon is called in the emergency department. Acute cholecystitis is one of the main causes of acute abdomen. Acute cholecystitis should be diagnosed at the earliest and with accuracy to avoid complications. Nigam’s acute cholecystitis scoring system (NACSS) is a good method to predict the diagnosis and severity of acute cholecystitis. NACSS is a simple and easy method without need of advance investigation techniques like CT scan, MRI and HIBA scan. It is a highly accurate method of diagnosing acute cholecystitis and its severity by grading the disease in four grades. NACSS can be used in small hospitals where CT scan, MRI and HIBA scan are not available.
