Effect of plant geometry on growth and yield of black gram (Vigna mungo L.) varieties

Abstract

The field experiment titled “Effect of Plant geometry on growth and yield of Black gram (Vigna mungo L.) varieties was conducted at Crop Research Farm, Department of Agronomy, Naini Agriculture Institute, Sam Higginbottom University of Agriculture, Technology and Science, Prayagraj (Allahabad), Uttar Pradesh during Zaid season of 2024. The experiment was laid out in Randomized Block Design with nine treatments which were replicated three times. The result revealed that treatment 4 [spacing-(30 cm x 10 cm) + Shekhar-2] recorded significantly taller plant height (46.2 cm), maximum no of nodules /plant (19.1), higher plant dry weight (36.02 g), maximum number of pods/plant (28.1), maximum number of seeds/pod (12.3), higher test weight (42.12 g), higher seed yield (978.10 kg/ha), and higher stover yield (1694.80 kg/ha). Maximum gross return (85415.00 INR/ha), net return (55055.00 INR/ha), benefit-cost ratio (1.81) was also found to be productive as well as economically feasible in treatment-T4 [spacing-(30 cm x 10 cm) + Shekhar-2].
