Perusal on genetic variability and association of some quantitative traits of bread wheat (Triticum aestivum L.)
Abstract
The experiment was conducted during Rabi season of 2019-20 at Section of Rabi Cereals, Chandra Shekhar Azad University of Agriculture & Technology, Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, India to study was undertaken to Dissection of Selection parameters viz., genetic variability, correlation and path coefficient analysis of yield and yield contributing traits in forty-one wheat genotypes. All genotypes were showed wide genetic variations for all the traits under study. The grain yield per plant. The minimum exhibited by genotype IC-539313 and maximum by genotype IC-534929 with grand mean. The phenotypic coefficients of variation (PCV) values were higher than genotypic coefficients of variation (GCV) values for all the traits studied. Genotypic coefficient of variation was reported moderate for yield per plantfollowed by productive tillers per plant, ear length per plant. High heritability with high genetic advance in per cent of mean were reflected by grain yield per plant which advocated concern of additive gene action for the expression of these character and selection for such trait might be useful. Grain yield per plant has significant and positive correlation with chlorophyll content, productive tiller per plant, and number of grains per spike and number spikelets per spike. The genotypic correlations of number of productive tillers per plant were higher with almost all the characters than phenotypic correlations.
