Organic wheat cultivation: Agronomic practices and productivity challenges

Abstract

Organic wheat cultivation has gained increasing importance in sustainable agriculture due to growing consumer demand for chemical-free products and environmental concerns. This review paper explores agronomic practices essential to organic wheat farming and analyzes key productivity challenges farmers face. It discusses soil fertility management, crop rotation, weed and pest control, and seed selection as integral components of organic systems. Furthermore, it identifies barriers such as nutrient deficiencies, weed pressure, lower yields, and market access that limit productivity. Recent advancements, research directions, and policy implications are also reviewed to offer a holistic understanding of organic wheat production.
