Abstract

The study was carried out to know the effect of potato seed tubers of different generations produced from apical rooted cutting technology on degeneration and cost economics of potato seed tubers in Southern Dry Zone of Karnataka during kharif season-2022-23 at Horticulture Research and Extension Centre, Somanahallikaval, Hassan. An experiment was laid out with seven treatment and four replications. The data showed that the treatment T1- ARC plantlets of Kufri Himalini was showed maximum survival percentage (81.17%) with plant height of 41.50, 63.79, 81.46 and 89.67 cm and number of branches per plant of 4.79, 6.96, 8.71 and 9.12 at 30, 45, 60 and 75 DAP, respectively. The treatment T1- ARC plantlets of Kufri Himalini was showed lowest potato mosaic virus and PLRV incidence. The maximum number of tubers per plant (8.87), tuber yield per plant (458.13 g) and total yield per hectare (29.31 t) documented in T1- ARC plantlets of Kufri Himalini. Similarly, highest cost of cultivation (Rs. 2,09,235), gross returns (Rs. 8,48,100), net returns (Rs. 6,38,865) and B:C ratio (1: 4.05) were recorded in the treatment T1 (ARC plantlets of Kufri Himalini). Therefore with good quality seed tuber yield and highest benefit cost ratio, the treatment T1 (ARC plantlets of Kufri Himalini) could be recommended for seed potato tuber production under Southern Dry Zone of Karnataka.
