5-year success rate of pre-emptively fabricated root analogue zirconia implant: A case report and review of literature
Abstract
Conventional dental implants have been used for oral rehabilitation which requires post-extraction time window of months being edentulous. With recent advancement like rapid prototyping, root analogue implants (RAI) can be fabricated with data obtained from the CT scanning of tooth. The authors here report a case requiring extraction of mandibular second premolar managed with RAI along with review of literature. A 44-year-old male patient reported with carious 45. A CBCT was done and Zirconia based RAI was fabricated. Implant stability, gingival health and bone loss were assessed. At a follow-up of 5-years, the implant was stable with gingival recession. On radiograph, bone loss was seen but the implant did not show any mobility. Review of literature revealed that Zirconia based RAI are the innovation and are seems to be promising with certain modifications. These RAI implants saves the post-extraction time required to fabricate conventional implants. Hence, to prove the feasibility of RAI, larger sample and long-term studies are required.
