Impact of plant growth regulators priming on root morphology of wheat
Abstract
The present study was conducted on wheat variety "K-607 (Mamta) this experiment was conducted in Rabi 2017-18 and 2018-19 on New Dairy Farm, Kalyanpur Kanpur.Main objective of this study to Evaluate the effect of Priming on Root Shoot & seedling Vigour index.Seed priming treatments namely hydration (4 and 8 hrs separately), 4 hrs hydration + Thiram 3 gm/kg seed, 8 hrs hydration + Thiram 3 gm/kg seed, Thiram and Trichoderma viride (3 and 4 gm/kg seed respectively), 50 and 100 ppm solution of each plant growth regulator viz.Gibberellic Acid (GA), Naphthalene Acetic Acid (NAA), Indole Acetic Acid (IAA), and 0.50 and 1.0% solution of Potassium Nitrate (KNO3) were applied.The standard procedures for assessment and studies were followed during experimentation.Observations were recorded on growth parameters.Viz.root length, shoot length etc. Results showed that seed priming treatments affected significantly to all the parameters.The highest value was recorded in Treatment T9 (GA3 50 ppm) with respect to seedling shoot length (11.85 cm), seedling root length (13.43 cm), seedling length (25.24 cm), seedling dry weight (0.214 gm/10 seedlings), seedling vigour IndexI (2225.50).however, the Treatment T4 (8 hrs hydration + Thiram 3 gm/kg seed), T8 KNO3 (1%), T9 GA3 (50 ppm) and T10 GA3 (100 ppm) produced statistically similar results.Thus the study demonstrated that the 8hrs hydration + Thiram 3 gm/kg seed, GA3 50 ppm priming treatment is most appropriate for seed quality of the wheat variety "K-607 (Mamta).
