Recent investigations on the prevalence of poultry diseases in Jammu region of UT of Jammu & Kashmir

Abstract

The current study was carried out to document the prevalence of various poultry diseases in the Jammu region of the UT of Jammu & Kashmir over a period of 24-months, from April 2021 to March 2023. The study's source material consisted of poultry birds that were referred to the Division of Veterinary Pathology, F.V.Sc & A.H., R. S. Pura for post-mortem analysis after dying of various illnesses. The identification of numerous poultry diseases was primarily based on the history, clinical symptoms, as well as gross and histopathological alterations and through standard laboratory assessments. Ninety-six illness outbreaks were documented. In poultry birds, the prevalence of viral and bacterial illnesses was found to be 30.18% and 44.75%, respectively. Additionally, 24.98% of cases had various infections like visceral gout, fatty liver hemorrhagic syndrome, and ascites syndrome, and 16.66% of cases had caecal coccidiosis. This study identified 11 poultry diseases, with colibacillosis showing the highest prevalence, followed by caecal coccidiosis, Newcastle Disease, Salmonellosis, IBH-HHS, IBD, pox, ascites syndrome, infectious coryza, visceral gout and fatty liver hemorrhagic syndrome (FLHS). The greatest rate of mortality was noted in Newcastle Disease, followed by IBH-HHS, caecal coccidiosis, colibacillosis, fatty liver hemorrhagic syndrome, Salmonellosis, infectious coryza, IBD, visceral gout, ascites syndrome, and avian pox. In many organs, distinctive gross and microscopic lesions were seen, suggesting the presence of a disease in poultry birds.
