Interactive effect of various levels of farmyard manure and soil fertility treatments on growth and yield of summer mash (Vigna mungo)

Abstract

Summer mash (Vigna mungo) is an important pulse crop valued for its nutritional and soil-enriching qualities. Optimizing its growth through effective nutrient management is crucial for enhancing productivity and sustainability. Although individual effects of farmyard manure and soil fertility treatments on leguminous crops have been widely studied, there is a lack of comprehensive research on their interactive effects, particularly in the context of summer cultivation of Vigna mungo.Existing literature addresses the combined impact of organic and inorganic inputs under varying soil fertility conditions, especially during the summer season when environmental stresses differ significantly. A research was carried out during the summer season of 2024 at the research farm of Lovely Professional University, Phagwara, (Punjab) in split plot design with 3 levels of FYM viz. FYM0, FYM4, FYM8 (t ha-1) in main plots and four levels of soil fertility treatments control, rhizobium, RDF, rhizobium + RDF in subplots with three replications. The results revealed that there was significant increase in growth and yield attributes and yield with increase in each level of FYM and the application of FR+RDF produced significantly higher growth and yield attributes and yield followed by FRDF and FR whereas the interaction effect was significant in chlorophyll index and number of seeds pod-1, seed yield, stover yield and harvest index respectively.
