Evaluation of fungicides against Colletotrichum capsici causing chilli anthracnose and fruit rot

Abstract

The anthracnose or fruit rot of chilli caused by Colletotrichum capsici (Syd.) Butler and Bisby cause huge losses in India. The efficacy of ten different fungicides at five concentrations has been tested against Colletotrichum capsici using poisoned food technique. Among ten fungicides tested in vitro, mancozeb and difenoconazole were found to be most effective and recorded 77.78% and 75.93% inhibition of growth of C. capsici respectively, even at 100 ppm concentration. Propiconazole, pyraclostrobin + metiram and carbendazim + mancozeb completely inhibited mycelial growth (100 per cent) at 200 ppm concentration, whereas tebuconazole at 500 ppm concentration showed complete inhibition of 100 per cent. Trifloxystrobin + tebuconazole, Pyraclostrobin and Azoxystrobin were found to be least effective. The fungicide carbendazim was failed to inhibit mycelial growth at all concentrations.
