3D virtual reality and image processing in landscape design

International Journal of Agriculture and Food Science · 2025 · Vol. 7(4) · pp. 251–253

Abstract

Simulating the outcomes of landscape planning is a vital step in ensuring thoughtful and effective design. Traditional simulation systems often fall short in flexibility and visual fidelity. To overcome these limitations, this study introduces an innovative virtual reality-based simulation system for landscape planning. The system architecture includes three layers: user, application, and display. Based on this structure, essential hardware components such as display units, control modules, and data acquisition devices are selected, and the system software is designed to support core operations seamlessly. This paper also explores a landscape design system powered by 3D image processing techniques. By enhancing image quality and removing unnecessary visual data, the design process becomes clearer and more precise. Using a case study of a garden green space, plant morphological data is collected and used to generate accurate 3D models through parametric modeling. The integration of Oculus Rift and the Open Scene Graph rendering engine allows for immersive visualization and spatial arrangement of landscape elements in virtual environments. The approach has proven effective, delivering high-quality, visually compelling designs while remaining cost-effective and energy-efficient.
