Knowledge level of beneficiary and non-beneficiary farmers regarding onion production technology in Rajasthan
Abstract
The present study was conducted in Sikar district of Rajasthan to assess the knowledge level of FLDs beneficiary and non-beneficiary farmers regarding Onion production technology. 4 Panchayat Samities were selected from Sikar district. 50 beneficiary farmer’s fields where FLDs were conducted in the year 2018-19, 2019-20 and 2020-21 and 50 non-beneficiary farmers from same villages where FLDs were not conducted were selected making a total sample size was of 100 respondents. The data from these farmers was collected using a well-structured and pre tested interview schedule during the year 2023-24. The findings showed that the majority of beneficiary farmers (58.00%) and non-beneficiary farmers (56.00%) had medium knowledge regarding Onion Production Technology. Further, it was also found that both type of respondents beneficiary and non-beneficiary possessed maximum knowledge regarding “Time of sowing” (86.57 MPS) and non-beneficiary possessed maximum knowledge regarding “Seed rate & Spacing (77.67 MPS) of Onion crop. Similarly the least knowledge of beneficiary and non-beneficiary farmers was possessed regarding “Plant protection measures” (66.43 MPS and 56.35 MPS) of Onion crop respectively. There is a need to provide trainings and organizing demonstrations to raise the knowledge and awareness among the non-beneficiary farmers.
