Abstract

Intercropping, or growing two or more crops together on the same land, has long been practiced by farmers but it’s now being recognized as a smart and sustainable way to make better use of natural resources. In the case of perennial orchards, the wide spaces between fruit trees often sit unused. That space holds great potential. By planting short-duration vegetables in between, farmers can significantly boost land productivity, improve soil health, and add an extra source of income.This approach is especially important today, as farmers face increasing pressure from shrinking land availability, changing climate patterns, and the need to adopt more diverse and resilient farming systems.
