Nutrient content of maize: Mustard cropping system under residue management practices

Abstract

The field experiment was conducted at Agricultural farm of the Mahatama Gandhi Chitrakoot Gramodaya Vishwavidyalaya Chirtakoot, Satna, (M.P.) during kharif and rabi season of 2022-23 and 2023-24 to study the effect of residue management practices on the nutrient content in seed and straw of maize cropping system. Results revealed that the application of residue incorporation + spray of microbial consortium on residue produced significantly higher nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium content in seed (1.62, 0.49 and 0.67%) and straw (0.67, 0.24 and 1.68%) in maize. However, nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium content in seed of mustard was noted significantly maximum under residue incorporation + spray of microbial consortium on residue with 3.005, 0.394 and 0.616%, respectively. Similarly, significantly higher nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium content in straw of mustard was recorded under the application of residue incorporation + spray of microbial consortium on residue treatments 0.522, 0.175 and 1.145% respectively.
