Studies on different milking management practices of cattle in Hardoi district of Uttar Pradesh

Abstract

The study examines the impact of improved animal husbandry practices on milk productivity and rural livelihoods in Hardoi district, Uttar Pradesh. It highlights the challenges faced by dairy farmers, such as poor genetic potential of dairy animals, inadequate feeding, and limited access to veterinary services. The research adopts a systematic approach to assess milking methods, frequency, environment, and hygiene practices across multiple tehsils. Results show that traditional milking methods and a lack of awareness limit milk yield. While most farmers practice twice-daily milking and employ traditional techniques, only a minority follow scientific practices. Findings underscore the importance of scientific dairy farming, including improved breeding, feeding and disease control, to enhance milk production, uplift rural communities, and reduce poverty. The study advocates for targeted interventions to bridge knowledge gaps and promote modern dairy practices.
