Morphomeristic and length-weight relationship factors of economically significant pelagic fish, Anodontostoma chacunda (Hamilton, 1822), Chacunda gizzard shad from the West Bengal coastal water, India
Abstract
Anodontostoma chacunda (Hamilton,1822) constitutes a significant part of dol net or bag net and trawl fishery from the ocean. A total of 65 specimens of A.chacunda were analyzed for morphometric studies and the overall total length (TL) varied from 11.5 to 16.4 cm. A total of 363 samples (267 males and 126 females) were utilized for the research. The overall ratio of males to females in the population was 1:0.47. A. chacunda’s length-weight relationship shows that the population's allometric or hypoallometric growth is substantially negative. L-W relationship of the species was fitted as Combined sex: Log W= 2.1806 + 0.063 Log L, R2 = 0.0052; Male: Log W= 173.95+0.5863 Log L, R2 =0.0029; Females: Log W= 144.04+2.0606 Log L, R2 =0.0499. Condition factor (K) for Combined, male and female as follows 0.51,0.43 and 0.6 indicate the growth maturity of these species.
