To study the effect of biochar and crop residues application on the biological properties of groundnut crop in inceptisols

Abstract

A field experiment was carried out in Rabi, 2017-18 and continued to Rabi 2018-19 at research farm, College of Agriculture and Research Station, Raigarh (C.G.). The experiment was laid out in randomized block design with three replications and consisted eleven treatments namely (T1) Control, (T2) GRD, (T3) 75%[email protected]/ha, (T4)75%GRD+RR@5t/ha, (T5) 75%GRD+RR @5t/ha+ 2.5 t FYM/ha, (T6) 75% GRD+ RB@ 2.5t/ha+2.5 t FYM/ha, (T7) T3+Trichoderma+2.5tFYM/ha, (T8) T4 + Trichoderma + FYM @ 2.5 t/ha, (T9) 75% GRD+RR@5t/ha+6%ureaspray, (T10) 75% GRD + RR@ 5t/ha RB 2.5 t/ha, (T11)T10+6% urea spray. During 2017-18 the highest dehydrogenase activity was recorded in T11 (23.21µg TPF g-1 day-1). During second year of rice-groundnut cropping system (2018-19), significantly higher (23.38µg TPF g-1 day-1) dehydrogenase activity of soil was recorded in T11. Fluorescein diacetate activity was observed higher under T11 (25.78 and 26.42µg fluorescein g-1 day-1) and it was found lower under T1 (11.17 and 11.92 µg fluorescein g-1 day-1) of rice-groundnut 2017-18 and 2018-19 respectively. Urease activity were ranged from 26.57 to 46.80 and 27.95 to 47.32 µg urea g-1 h-1 during the rice-groundnut cropping systems of 2017-18 and 2018-19 respectively. During second year of rice-groundnut cropping system (2018-19), ssignificantly higher (47.32µg urea g-1 h-1) fluorescein diacetate activity of soil was recorded in T11. From the study it was concluded that the maximum microbial activities was recorded in T11 (T10 + 6% urea spray on rice residues). The present investigation recommended that 75% GRD with Rice Residues@5 t//ha and Rice [email protected] t/ha + 6 % urea spray on rice residue application will be helpful soil health for rice-groundnut cropping system for Inceptisol of Chhattisgarh.
