Phytochemical and antioxidant porperties of mangoes produced in Korhogo and Sinématiali departments, north of Côte d'Ivoire

Journal of Pharmacognosy and Phytochemistry · 2025 · Vol. 14(2) · pp. 408–415

Abstract

Mango is appreciated for its nutritional qualities. Unfortunately, potential of its organs remains underexplored. Therefore, 7 mango varities namly Kent, Amelie, Keitt, Mademoiselle, Cameroon, Zill and Palmer produced in Korhogo and Sinématiali were investigated. This study aims also to carry out comparative phytochemical composition and antiradical activity of peels, pulps and almonds of these mango varieties. Study is based on qualitative and quantitative analyses. Phytochemical screening was carried out using tube and TLC plate methods. Various compounds families were assayed using colorimetric tests. Anti-free radical activity was assessed using DPPH method. Phytochemical study reveal high polyphenol content on almonds (507.33±14.19 mgEAG/g) than peels and pulps with respective maximum value of 220.67±2.31 mgEAG/g and 56.00±1.15 mgEAG/g. For antioxidant activity, concentrations for 50% radical inhibition (IC50) with mangoes extracts vary from 0.03 to 0.1 µg/mL. This study will help to optimise mangoes processing and encourage more sustainable and innovative agriculture.
